The Ancient Masonic Order of Alfred the Great is a Sovereign Order which recognises meritorious service by Past Masters of the Order of Athelstan.
The ritual of the Order commemorates the role of Alfred the Great in paving the way for the succession of Athelstan. Members hold one of three progressive grades: Knight (KAG), Knight Commander (KCAG) or Knight Grand Cross (GCAG).
The Ancient Masonic Order of Alfred the Great became a Sovereign Order at a memorable meeting of the King’s Council of the Order in Leicester on 1st July 2023.
Over 100 Knights of the Order gathered to witness the unique pageant of the signing of a Charter of Sovereignty by the Grand Master of the Masonic Order of Athelstan MWBro PW Johnston,Past Sovereign Grand Master and the Sovereign Grand Master of AMOAG, Sir Kt Dr Christopher Ansell, who was installed into that office immediately prior to the signing of the Charter.
The Sovereign Grand Master also installed Sir Kt William H Carlyon as Grand Legate and confirmed and invested the Grand Chancellors for the Regions of the Order.
